Hi all,
I thought I'd try and give something back to this fanatastic site that has helped me so much over the last few months.
Sorry if this is really obvious or has been covered before, but I just figured this out and thought it may help some newbies (such as myself). The experts have forgotten more than I'll ever know, but if it helps one such as myself, then I guess it's worth it.

Yesterday I captured 40 mins of video from my VHS using Virtual Dub (PICVideo MJPEP @ 20). During the capture my un-defragged hard-drive caused the video to drop 7 frames. The Audio was also adjusted by +100ms. Luckily I made a note of this.
When I encoded to MPeg2 I noticed the Audio was slightly behind the video. I checked the Conversion How To and found Dumwaldo's tip on how to adjust audio sync in TMPGEnc (www.vcdhelp.com/sync.htm), but the question was...by how much? So I got to thinking..........(after a couple of hit'n'miss attempts)

I captured PAL which is 25 Frames Per Second. 1 second is 1000 MiliSeconds, therefore 1 frame equals 40ms (1000/25).

VDub dropped 7 frames during the capture. which equals 280ms (7*40).

VDub adjusted the Audio by 100ms, which is 180ms too little (280-100).

So I adjusted the Audio (thx Dumwaldo) by +180ms using TMPGEnc and hey presto..perfect Audio Sync!

So my conclusion is take the number of dropped frames, multiply by 40, subtract (or add if necessary) this from the adjusted ms total, and adjust audio up (or down) by the remainder in TMPGEnc, and Bob's your uncle!

As I say, if this is blindingly obvious, then please ignore this post, but you never know!

Cheers

Jayce

p.s. I didn't post this in the How To section because it thought it may have been covered before, but please feel free to move it if it hasn't ;-)
