I have just installed a Startech USB3HDCAP and it works well capturing with VDub via HDMI from a VHS tape in a Panasonic EZ-48V. Quality is on a par with other (USB) capture methods. I have to manually set the HDMI output resolution in the EZ-48 menu; if the HDMI res is left in Auto, I get a No Signal" message from the USB3HDCAP.

Correct, on "auto" HDMI is trying to handshake, which fails.

Yep, it's the exact same thing with my Blackmagic Intensity Pro. Both the Pana's HDMI output res as well as the card's input need to be set manually.
