  1. I haveth ESPN 30 for 30 Fifth Anniversary Collection. I'm backing it up to my media server with MakeMKV.

On disc 19, there's an issue with the menu for the special features that come with The 99ers. Specifically, they are listed across several pages, but the "next" button on one of those pages simply takes you back to the same page the button is on in the first place, so there's no way to get further down the menu.

Is there a way I can get at the actual menu files and find the remaining pages, so I know what features are included on the disc and can label my files appropriately?

  2. What specifically would I do? I can load the BDMV folder, but I don't understand what I'm looking at.

I will chip in since I probably know as much as anyone else.

A menu can not be 'extracted'. At best you can view the commands that control the navigation such commands being similar to those that control dvd navigation..

The suggested program might not even be able to do that since the text only mentions 'Top Menu' and I guess that the extras are a sub-menu. But there is a 'Menu' tab so no harm in clicking on that to see where it gets you.

Now assuming that the commands for the extras menu show up you still will get no further since there will be a command that reloads the screen as you mentioned. The extra pages might not even have been on that disk and it was authored in such a way as to repeat the same navigation with just the effective last 'scene' being edited so. Of course you could look at another disk which does go beyond that point to see where that could take you.

But what you can do is reasonably simple. Take a note of the various 'scenes' as they appear in normal playback. Then compare those viewed scenes with direct playback of the .mts files on your rip. Any extra .mts files, apart from intros, typical FBI warnings etc., will be content that was not accessable. And you can label all the .mts files accordingly for your mkv.

  4. I have all the video files. What I don't know is what they are, specifically. There's some clips from some sort of function, but I have no idea what function it is. The menu would mention this.

So you have seen the commands as I mentioned ? If so some screen grabs might assist.

Now I saw this set (I think it's the same one) listed (not now available) at Amazon.uk. It seems to list all the videos on the set and, surely, such a set should come with a booklet of sorts to list them. Some of the other similar ones in this series have booklets in their illustrations.

    What commands, where?

Yes, obviously there's a command tied to the "next page" button that has the wrong command tied to it. But what I was hoping to be able to do is find the image files that make up the missing pages, which will allow me to get the names of the bonus features. I don't need interactivity or anything.

It lists all the films, but not the bonus features for each film.

You mentioned a 'function'. My interpret of that is that you could see the commands such as setting registers, jmp to 'xxy' but you did not know what they meant.

And, as you say, you can see the command that apparently links to the 'wrong' page.

But there is one other possibility. That the wrong playlist was loaded at the start. I have gone on record here that I have a blu ray that refuses to load the extras despite them being on the disk - the button always links back to the main feature. And another from the same dist. that will load the extras but not the main feature. No doubt the disks would play fine in a blu ray player but I only play my disks in a software player with a region-removal tool that relies on an online database to make it region-free.

  8. I didn't mean 'function' in the programming sense. There's a video file, it's footage of some sort of function involving a Q&A thing with some of the players or something like that. I don't know what I'm supposed to call that file, because I can't see the page in the menu that allows me to select it.

BDEdit's developer posted documentation for his program here: http://bdedit.pel.hu/

You'll need to figure it out yourself. I don't have enough experience with Blu-ray to understand very much of the documentation. Plus, at present, I don't have access to the computer I need to study the documentation and experiment with BDEdit.

At the very bottom of the docs linked to above, there is a link to a guide about editing menus.

Whether that is going to help you I know not. But essentially it would take a member that actually has this disk set to walk you through the precise process.

  11. Neither of those describes my disc at all. None of the CLPI files contain an IG stream, and JAR/00000 only contains main.0.aca, main.0.png, main.1.png, and map.txt.

main.1.png seems to be blank, main.0.png is just every single button from the entire disc, as far as I can tell, all in one file. Ugh.

This means that your disc is Java (BDJ) disc created using DoStudio. And all your problems are in Java.

You can try playing the disc using modern version of PowerDVD. Theoretically, it will show you the entire menu.

  13. That's what I've been doing but as I said there's an authoring error which makes at least one page inaccessible.

If PowerDVD can't - try TotalMedia Theatre.

  15. Why would the player make a difference? If it's authored wrong it's authored wrong, no?

I saw this bug on some titles authored in DoStudio. And I saw it on 2 of 6 hardware players. Perhaps this is an authoring bug. Perhaps a DoStudio bug.

I know only 3 software players that plays Java titles well in most cases: PowerDVD, TotalMedia Theatre, and Scenarist QC.

    No.

You already confirmed one of my suspicions that you play these disks in a software player just as I do.

And do tell me if I am wrong that these disks are coded Region/Zone A for the US there being no other releases.

So you need a means to remove this Zone restriction and that has to be done with programs such as DVDFab Passkey. In invoking such a program, as I previously stated, they refer to their own database and could well load the wrong playlist especially if the disk is not in their database.

Do you not think if there really was a fault on the disk that a user review on, for example, Amazon would not have highlighted that fact ?

Was koberulz playing the original disc or a files and folders rip produced by MakeMKV? The region code problem would have been taken care of when the disc was ripped using MakeMKV. I don't know if MakeMKV could have screwed up the rip somehow.

^^ He said he has the files but can not identify them.

I do not use MakeMkv but I read only yesterday in another topic that an actual mkv made with that program only takes the main feature so would not even see any menus. As he stated earlier, that he is using PowerDVD as his viewing platform but whether that also reads/plays a full BD rip I know not.

  20. I put the disc in my Oppo 203 and encountered the same authoring error.

    Region A locked ?

Still strange that no negative feedback from others who have acquired these.

  22. It's buried deep in the bonus features of a lesser film from a massive box set that wouldn't have sold all that many copies.

And the answer to the first part of the Q. ?

Now the 20 disk set does appear to be a limited release but what tends to happen is that these collections are sourced from earlier releases and there are quite a few of them.

Amazon has +100 reviews but I accept that is not a yardstick since it often pools reviews for several versions in to one.

But if no one has any release to compare then you will have to bite the bullet. But Google might be your friend here.

I use PowerDVD Ultra for playing Blu-ray discs on my PCs. It is also able to play full Blu-ray rips (file and folder format) produced by MakeMKV, including menus.

is what I referred to. Or because the BD structure is very unlike a DVD it makes the difference.

But sorry to hark on. Makemkv would still have to select the correct playlist to navigate the rip completely. Same with a player when it loads the disk.
