  1. I have been editing my videos for quite some time now by demuxing, working on the audio seperately, sometimes working on the video seperately, and then muxing everything back. Sometimes, after muxing, I work on the video but anyways...

What I am looking for and wondering if it is available, whether free or paid, is a video editor that will let me work on the video AND the audio individually but within the same window or program. All of my work on audio involves simply mute audio segments of the track. Most of my work on video involves trimming or cutting out certain segments of the video and some mosaic/mask effects.

I've searched online but since my needs are so simple I don't really see those in the "features" of said programs or they don't work with the MKV container or they don't support H.265. Ugh. I work with MP4 and MKV containers and only encode using h265 with 10bit HDR. Was wondering if anyone here had a recommendation.

  2. My NLE, Vegas, shows both the audio and video track at the same time. You can cut the audio at separate places from the video; you can take each of those cuts and apply whatever sound modification you want; and then you can do the same thing for the video. You then render out the result, and Vegas recombines the audio and the video.

I think pretty much any other NLE can do the same thing.

But, I may not be understanding your question ...

I think you understood. I basically just want to be able to work with audio and video within the same editing window or at least the same program. I was hoping to just be able to say... mute an audio segment (which is what I do 95% of the time) in the audio stream without having to cut it and work on it separately.

I dont think all NLEs can do the same as the program you recommended as I have worked with TMPGEnc 7 and you can't work with the audio alone. I have also tried Filmora from Wondershare and that has the previously mentioned features but, it does not support H.265 which I need.

    I welcome other suggestions.

What's wrong with Vegas? If you don't want to buy the professional version, they have an entry-level version for very little money that will do exactly what you want. You can download the trial and test it out for yourself.

  5. I just understood from what you said that I would have to cut the video and audio out of the main video and work on them separately. Maybe I misunderstood. Regardless, I can't get Vegas 17 Pro to work on my PC for whatever reason. It is really slow to load up 4k h265 files and forget about even editing them. Not sure what to do so I am currently still sticking to my tried and true method of demuxing, working on audio seperately, muxing back then working on video.

  6. Editing 4K H.265 files requires a LOT of computer power. H.265 is optimized for playback, not editing. Consider using a proxy workflow. In Vegas you can create proxies, edit them, and then link back to the original files for final output. It's generally a lot less painful.

Yeah, I'm able to edit them fine on my PC with my other software but, I guess I am going to have to use a proxy file and see if I can make it work better in Vegas. Thanks.
