  1. When I type in:

    youtube-dl -U to update youtube-dl I get this message:

ERROR: can't find the current version. Please try again later.

The program still works but I noticed here at Videohelp there was a new release so I thought it best to update.

I have never had trouble updating in the past.

Also I might as well ask about something else to do with youtube-dl. I have it in a folder on my desktop with "ffprobe", "ffplay" and "ffmpeg" also. Now I do keep youtube-dl updated via the command line update, but I haven't bothered with the other programs that comprise ffmpeg. My last update for youtube-dl is dated 2020-05-28 and the ffmpeg components are dated 2018-11-11. So does having the ffmpeg being not as updated cause less functionality? I kind of think "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

Thank you in advance for any advice on this issue.

  3. lomero: Thank you I will give that a try.

I just did that and downloaded it to the same folder and allowed it to replace the previous version. I am testing it now and things are working fine thus far. Thank you once again.

If someone has advice about the secondary matter thank you in advance.

  6. it is best to keep ffmpeg updated, as it is an integral part of youtube-dl
