Can the brain trust help here. I have x20 old but Ok VHS-C tapes 'familyy footage ' recorded in Pal Format. I would like to rip them here in the USA to my PC. I had forgotten that they were PAL and although I purchased a very good condition Panasonic PV-L557 and a Cloner Alliance Box pro , the input is unreadable and the software senses it is NTSC. Other than using a $$$ service or trying to buy a multi-world VCR player and VHS-C adapter to rip is there another solution ?

    Thank you all !

The user manual for this camera confirms that it is NTSC only. I may be wrong but I do not think that dual-standard VHS-C cameras existed.

    Your only options are:

    1. Professional transfer
    2. Multi-standard VCR and vhs-c adapter
    3. VHS-C camera outsourced from UK with confirmation that it is a PAL unit.

Thats what I was afraid of - is there any software that could decode the input coming from the NTSC camcorder or maybe a digital camcorder that can act as a recorder ?

    ?

To that I'd add a 4th option. Get a PAL VCR with an adapter. You need only change the plug and you're good to go.

    VHS-C cameras are terrible anyway.
Get a recommended VCR with the recommended VHS-C adapter.

That is indeed an option as long as the power supply is provided for. Not so sure with UK vcrs which, I thought, tended to be 220/240 volts. But one can always get a power converter.

You will need a capture card/device that also accepts Pal. Many of them are switchable dual standard, but don't just presume it works, because in ntsc-land lots don't.
