  1. Got a question. I play my vcds or svcds in my stand alone dvd player. Ive been trying to tape them from the dvd player to vhs, but so far im unable to do so. I realize there is some copyright protection crap when it comes to dvd's but i thought it was on the disk, no in the player. Is there a way to tape vcds from your dvd to VHS.

the dvd player model is RCA RC5240P, incase you needed to know.
    Any insight would be helpfull.

  2. I've got a stand-alone VCD player (Panasonic SL-VP57) and it works fine. I figure there shouldnt be any probs as long as you are making the VCD's yourself (no copyright)

  3. well telling me about your standalone vcd player doesnt help much, seeing as how i have a DVD player. Any info from those with DVD players that are able to tape vcds from them would be helpfull.
    thanks

mrpink, it would be helpful if you could describe the problem you are having with recording from dvd payer to vhs. It is simply a matter of taking the rca cables from the out of the dvd player and plugging them into the input of the vcr. Is this not working for you?

  6. I have done it different ways. My current set up is as follows. I have a receiver that the dvd goes into, then out to the tv. On the back of the receiver in the dvd connections, there is a output, i have tried to run the rcas from there to the input on the vcr, didnt work. I took rcas ran them from the dvd player(out) directly to the vcr in, still didnt work. I tried a sample of about 5mins to see if i was getting it, all i got was a black screen with a few white lines jumping around. Im kinda stumped.
    Any ideas???

i would suggest you completely bypass the receiver (for troubleshooting reasons). Run the dvd player into your vcr, and the output of the vcr into your tv so that you can view it as it records. Are these homemade vcd's or factory? You may need to locate the line input switch (or button) on your vcr or remote.

  8. bought vcds, sorry had to contain the laughter. I have tried that in the past, however didnt use the outputs on the vcr to tv to see if it was coming through. Ill give that a shot next. I did read something in the dvd manual about it not being possible to tape from the dvd player, just didnt think that was possible. I realize there is some form of anti-piracy crap, but always assumed it was on the actual dvd not in the player itself.
Thanks for the info, ill see if it works.

well i was actually referring to the vcds being encoded with macrovision. most factory vcds are encoded that way. Yes, i agree with you, but you didn't say what type they were. you might look around for something called a video clarifier or macrovision remover, its a little box you put in between your dvd player and vcr.

also keep im mind, vcds are more popular than the dvd format in asian countries, so factory vcds are very much a norm there.
