Been a while since I tried to do this, how did this become so complicated? Stuff like this used to be fairly easy as I remember... (the cut would not be "perfect" because of the key frames and such, but it would cut as close as possible).
MKVToolNix "no longer?" supports splitting files with FLAC tracks... I read somewhere to use XMedia-Recode to extract the track to some other lossless format such as wav or PCM - remux to MKV it then I can use MKVToolNix to split it... XMedia Recode has like 6 different kinds of WAV files now (PCM)... this is all getting to complicated LOL, all I wana do is cut out a small slice from an MKV file... isn't there some easy way to do this without degrading the audio? MediaInfo says:
Audio
ID : 2
Format : FLAC
Format/Info : Free Lossless Audio Codec
Codec ID : A_FLAC
Duration : 1 h 43 min
Bit rate mode : Variable
Bit rate : 1 827 kb/s
Channel(s) : 2 channels
Channel layout : L R
Sampling rate : 48.0 kHz
Frame rate : 11.719 FPS (4096 SPF)
Bit depth : 24 bits
Compression mode : Lossless
Stream size : 1.33 GiB (18%)
Writing library : libFLAC 1.2.1 (UTC 2007-09-17)
Language : Japanese
Default : Yes
Forced : No
All I want to do is cut out a small section and not lose any quality.

Install the audio editor Audacity with the ffmpeg helper and drag your file into the program
Export the audio as a WAV file.
Then use MKVtoolnix with your source, disable the FLAC audio and add the WAV audio.
Save as a new media file.
Split it in your preferred program (Avidemux works well) -
thanks for your help, one question wich encoding is the best when exporting with audacity as wav?

I would use 16-bit as I can not hear any difference between that or 24. Unless you have some sort of audiophile setup or really care, use 16. If you also reduce the audio to 44.1 KHz, you'll get the standard for CDs and can burn them if you want.
