Virtual dub capture mode, only 2 video compression options?

I've been using virtual dub lately for capturing to AVI, then converting to SVCD with avi2svcd (or tmpgenc if the avi has commercials). It seems that when I use either Huffy or norecompression that I still loose frames (even at 320x240 with huffy selected). I'm wondering if I can add more video compression options so that I dont' loose frames and I can capture at higher quality and select my bitrate when I capture. here is a picture of what my compression options look like http://nfl2k2.150m.com/vdub.jpg . any help?

This is a question regarding the video formating options in Virtual:

I'm trying to capture miniDV from a Sony TRV10 to avi on my PC. In the Video format there are no options to select YU2U or others. The only option is dvsd. Also, if I try to change the video formating in the Customs format, I get an eror message "410" and a message that the format isn't supported. Disd I get a bad download of Virtual (I downloaded it twicw" or is this camcorder not supported by virtual?

Basically it looks like you need to simply install more codecs. MJEG is a nice one to use. With your computer, you could probably even capture directly to a Mpeg4/DivX format. With an Athlon 700 I can capture directly to DivX using the fastest compression to 360x360 (up to 6000 kbps). With your faster processor you may even be able to get SVCD quality or more (I start dropping frames like mad with DivX as soon as I make the vertical resolution over 360). Basically, you need to find codecs and install them.

I really have to recommend an MJEG codec though.

for the PicVideo Mjeg, go to http://www.jpg.com/video/mjpeg.htm I believe it puts a watermark on your files until you register it.

You should be able to add quite a few to your selection. I'd avoid DivX 5 as some versions have spyware that anonymously reports things back to the company that made it. Go for DivX 4.12 if you are going to use a DivX codec. I love the Mjeg ones though.

If you visit

and download and install the wmpcdcs8.exe package (717KB) then you'll have all the latest Direct Show filters and MPG4 codecs 1, 2 & 3 (plus other legacy codecs).

With my Duron 900 & 512 MB RAM (W2K) i capture VHS with the MPG4 V2 codec - bitrates of about 1500Kb/s and am happy with the results.
