    I am having difficulty getting this .avi file to play audio. I am utilizing the latest version of MPC+HC (ver. 1.7.13).

    I am getting the following error code: MPC+HC could not render some of the pins in the graph, you may not have the needed codecs or filters installed on the system.

    My System Specs are as follows:
    Windows 10 64 bit, AMD Ryzen 7, 1700x, 64 GB Ram, GeForce GTX 1080 Ti (Driver Vers. 445.97 latest)). My system has all the latest Windows & Drivers Updates.

    I made a bug report, and this is the response I received: "Try opening the "video_ts.ifo" file with the player. You seem to be playing a .vob file now." I have no idea what this means, since there is only 1 .avi file I am trying to play.

    The individual I received the file from claims he can hear audio, but he is using a much older version of MPC+HC, and I am not sure I believe he is hearing audio when playing this particular file.

    I have tried other video players, including VLC. I tried downloading a K-Lite codec pack. I tried downloading LAV filters, as this was recommended from the MPC+HC site to troubleshoot problems playing .avi files. I have tried opening the file on another system. I am losing patience, and am likely to just go watch the file on his system.

    In any event, please help. I have spent hours on this, and I do not want to encounter this problem in the future when trying to play files received from this individual.

  2. Not enough information. Would be helpful to post even a 5-10second clip.

    Anyways, suggests it is using an old codec that used to be installed or available on older Windows OS like XP, such as Intel IMA audio codec, that isn't available or installed by default on newer windows.

    In that situation, you'd have to look around for 3rd party codec packages to install and try to see if it enables such.
    eg. http://www.cccp-project.net/

    https://download.cnet.com/Windows-Media-Codec-Pack/3000-13632_4-75222206.html

    For example, some older WMV files don't play correctly in modern Win10 without such.

    What does MediaInfo say about that pesky .AVI file?

    If it contains an uncommon type of audio compression OR if the audio type was mislabelled by the .AVI muxig application
    then the software player will not find a suitable decoder for the audio stream.

    P.S.: assuming that the AVI file actually is an AVI and not a renamed VOB, for example.

    UPDATE:

    {{
    Q: "Media Player Classic could not render some of the pins in the graph" errors
    A:
    This usually means that there is a filter missing that is needed to decode one of the streams in the file. The error message should show some information about the required format, but this information is very cryptic. Below you can find some of the values that the error might show you, together with the format that belongs to it.

    majortype: MEDIATYPE_Audio {73647561-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}
    subtype: Unknown GUID Name {726D6173-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}
    formattype: FORMAT_WaveFormatEx {05589F81-C356-11CE-BF01-00AA0055595A}

    The format above is AMR audio. To play this you need to enable AMR in LAV Audio decoder or ffdshow audio decoder.

    "The format above is AMR audio. To play this you need to enable AMR in LAV Audio decoder or ffdshow audio decoder."

    I'm sorry, but please provide further details on how to do this exactly. TYI. This is in the MPC+HC options?

    In the options setting of MPC+HC settings, I have selected LAV Splitter, LAV Splitter Source, and LAV Audio Decoder. When double-clicking the LAV Audio Decoder, in the formats section, AMR is selected. It is deselected in the Player--->Formats Section. Are these the proper options selections to make the AMR file play utilizing the LAV decoder?

    Are there any other options that need to be tinkered with when opening LAV App in either the video settings or the format tabs? Other options in MPC+HC player itself that need to be toggled or tinkered with?

    Thanks so much in advance.

  9. The format above is AMR audio
    If that's correct:

    Install 32 bit ffdshow if your are using 32 bit mpchc, 64 bit ffdshow if you are using 6 bit mpchc:

    https://www.videohelp.com/software/ffdshow

    Enable ffdshow's AMR decoder if it's not already. Start -> All Programs -> ffdshow (x64) -> Audio Decoder Configuration (x64) -> AMR -> libavcodec

    MPCHC should now be able to play the audio.

  10. Recode the audio with ffmpeg to another supported format.
    Example: ffmpeg -i input.amr -acodec libmp3lame output.mp3
