Hello everyone,
been a member here for a long time, before it was even called videohelp but when it was called vcdhelp.com.
anyways under my notifications it says i have a visitor message but I can not delete it or remove it and I can not find where to even view the visitor message at.
i think it was a feature that went away and because i never got it before it was removed its just there but i can not do anything. i will admit i had a long time after i gave up vcd's, (think the site went to dvdrhelp.com for a while) and i just stop coming by so often to the point i was not even coming at all.
but now i've been checking on it daily again and getting some help here and there checking out new posts etc.
this one thing is just annoying me though.
any help would be appreciated.
ryan

Normally just clicking on the colored notification takes you to your messages in-box. So you are then deemed to have read the message and the notification vanishes.
But, if memory serves, if you go direct to your in-box, whether you read the message or not, whether even you reply to it or not, the notification remains until your physically click on it. -
thats it though, there's nothing in my inbox, thats whats so confusing, maybe its really old and the message has been removed but not the notification.

I seem to recall reading that a few years before I joined there was a server issue and content was lost.
But other than that the only person who can delete your messages is you.
I'll send you a quick 'test' message and report back with what happens then. -
Seems to me Ryan is speaking of a Visitor Message and DB83 is referring to the regular Private Message feature.
Maybe if you disable Visitor Messaging, the phantom notification will go away.
https://forum.videohelp.com/profile.php?do=editoptionsEnable Visitor Messaging
This forum features a visitor messaging system that allows members to send messages to one another publicly. If you do not want to receive visitor messages, you may disable the visitor messaging system. My YouTube channel with little clips: vhs-decode, comparing TBC, etc. -
Hmmn. That's fair enough.
I see that 'feature' turned on in my profile yet I fail to see the benefit of it. 'Send a message publicly' smells of spam to me. -
hello
db83, i got your message but as brad stated thats a private message.
by disabling the visitor messaging it went away but when i enabled it again it came back.
perhaps I am just not seeing where to look for visitor messages but when i click on the notification for it just takes me to a page with no messages (see screenshot) -
Twas my error since I had never heard of visitor messages. I can not even find how one can send one but I suspect 'visitor' means someone not logged in. Or it exists when someone is banned and needs some explanation from Admin.
A quick mail to Baldrick 'Contact Us' at bottom of page might throw more light on the matter. -
Well just for a giggle I logged out. Still no clear, obvious way how to send a 'visitor message'
-
maybe it is in one of the other message folders?

not in another other folder, i've checked everything.
i guess i'll do the contact thing, its really more of an annoyance than anything else,
probably was a feature no longer used and since i didn't take care of it then (who knows this might be years old, i was gone from the site for at least 5 years ), heck this site has changed names a few times i think thats why i lost track of it, my hayday of it so to speak was when it was vcdhelp.com and then i think it went to dvdrhelp.com , not sure if it went to anything between those and the current name. think officially I've been a member for like 20 years now (man that makes me feel old).
