How to name subtitles in mkv files?

I currently embed an srt in an mkv.

So far so good.

But when I select it in MPC (Media Player Classic) it looks like this:

I just want it to say English instead of all the "[eng] (subrip)".

In VLC its like this:

I'd like it to just say English here too!

Here's my ffmpeg code:

ffmpeg -i "filename.avs" -i "filename T80 2_0ch 192Kbps DELAY 0ms.ac3" -ac 2 -i "filename.srt" -metadata:s:s:0 language=eng -metadata:s:s:0 title="English" -map 0:v -map 1:a -map 2:s -c:v libx264 -profile:v high -pix_fmt yuv420p -b:v 5000k -preset slow -bf:v 2 -rc vbr_hq -rc-lookahead 32 -movflags +faststart -c:a copy -scodec copy -t 60 "output.mkv"

Removing the

-metadata:s:s:0 language=eng

gets rid of [English] in VLC and the [eng] in MPC, but I still have "(subrip)" in MPC.

I notice this while ffmpeg renders which might give clues on how to remove it:

You can't "remove" the "subrip" from a file. That's just the format the subtitle is in. Removing the language tagging is bad practice as well. It's the standardized way to store the language so lots of software can detect the language and make e.g. automatic selection decisions. If anything I would remove the title - it's redundant when you already have the language set the standardized way.

Fair enough. Ill remove the title and just have language set. Cheers.
