Now that mkvmerge no longer supports cutting and joining of FLAC audio streams, a feature the creator says never worked right all along, I am in need of a substitute for that functionality.
From browsing this forum, I know several encoders are capable of cutting video files without reencoding them, like mkvmerge does. I don't know if they actually use mkvmerge to do that though. Those that do would lose the ability to cut FLAC when they update their mkvmerge.
More important is joining. I don't know of any other application that can join videos like mkvmerge does.
Another approach would be to convert the FLAC into a format that mkvmerge can work with. But which has similar settings to FLAC? 16/24 bit depth, 48kHz sampling, multiple channels. More importantly, which app lets you set all that?

in 30 years as an independent video editor i've never once been given anything with flac as the audio. and i've been sent some weird shit. if i were you i'd demux, convert to wav, mux it back together and go from there. flac isn't an audio format that belongs in video.

Flac is used in some videos so it's ok to ask in this forum.
