  1. This is very weird, I've recorded probably hundreds of videos on my S8 and downloaded them to my PC (Windows 10) with no problems. Yesterday I downloaded five short videos to find when playing them they suddenly go all sort of reverse image for a second or two then return to normal then reverse image again. The sound is ok.
I've recorded test videos now on the SD card and the phone's memory and they play correctly on the phone but once transferred to the PC the problems begin. From this I deduce it's the PC that's at fault. I've changed nothing from the day before when the downloaded videos played as usual with no problems.
Could it be some sort of driver issue?
Any ideas, I'm at a loss?!

Can you record a very short video that causes this problem and attach it? 5 seconds or less would be best.

What players have you tried on the PC?

Thanks for responding, I could record a video for you but it will play perfectly on here, as it does on my phone. The problem comes after I've downloaded it onto MY PC.
It won't play properly in VLC or when I load it into Sony Movie Studio.

  4. Here's a clip anyway

I did notice by the way that the pixeling starts to occur around my mouth and eyes, ie the bits that move the most before the whole image goes awry, then returns to normal, them goes again etc.

A YouTube post won't help with diagnosis, due to their re-processing. Needs to be an attachment to the forum. ("Go Advanced" -> "Upload files/Manage attachments".)

And yes, what you're describing is the effect I expected. Something like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-lGmErj3t4 ?

    Video from my phone

    new test video.mp4

This instantly pixelates on my pc.
Rather oddly, the video I took the day before is fine, could my pc have updated and changed something, it's just the video from today!!

  9. I've just looked in my camera settings and the HVEC format was selected, this saves space apparently. 'You may not be able to play HEVC videos on other devices or share them online'.
I'm wondering if this is the problem, I haven't been into camera settings for a long time but it was selected. I've just recorded another test video and it's fine. Could this have been the problem???

  10. I've just completed a five minute video and everything seems to be in order, thank you for your help to this stage, hopefully longer videos will prove ok. Fingers crossed.

The one you posted is definitely HEVC (and it plays fine on my PC using MPC-HC).

You can use MediaInfo, MPC-HC, VLC, etc. to check the format of the older video that plays fine.

This is a compressed container, like ZIP od RAR. You can open it with 7-zip.

  13. Try a few different video players. What video player are you using when the video shows up with this corruption? I find that many versions of Windows Media Player will do this, but VLC or one of the other open source players usually avoid these glitches.
