  6. If you followed the guide from here and it won't encode then you either have done something wrong or your DivX file is corrupted. The guide here works fine. I've used it and so have countless others. A few questions that might shed some light are: Can you watch your DivX on your computer? Is the file complete? What steps (tell us) did you use to encode?

  7. Ok, when you say that the guide didn't work, what's the actually part that didn't work? Can you play the DivX file in media player? Was TMPGenc able to read the file? Could you generate a MPEG1 file? Could you play the MPEG file in media player? Could you burn the MPEG1 file? If so how? Is it that your DVD couldn't read play the VCD? etc. etc. Give us some more info

Other guides to look at are:
    http://www.vcdhelp.com http://www.doom9.org and http://www.flexion.org/vcd
flexion has a lot of screen shots and step-by-step instructions so you might want to check it out.

  11. my suggestion is to check to see what type of disks your player will play by checking the dvd players list here: http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php

you then need to convert the divx to a vcd compliant mpeg using tmpgenc. once that is done, you need to use nero to burn the video cd onto a cd-rw. this may be a round-about way of doing things, but it works for me - why fix what's not broke?

but check to see if your player can even play burned vcd's first. otherwise none of the help people are offering here will matter.

hope this helps... one (improving) newbie to another.
