I bought some online and they burned great--too bad nothin I owned read them as far as they were burned The most my DVD player will see is 88mins 35sec, i.e. a 90min cd. If you're going to buy them check that both your dvd player (if thats where they will be played) or your cd player can actually read that far and that your burner can write that far. otherwise you might just as well buy 90 min cd's

Can your CD burner overburn to 90-99 min? Look in the CD Writers section to the left to see if your model has been reported there. I believe Nero can handle the overburning to 99 min .... I think. My Sony 160E does not overburn.

I use the 99 minute CD-Rs from CompUSA to burn audio CD compliations. I have only burned to 89:52 minutes, but this was because of the length of my audio. You need to make sure that your CD recorder can overburn to this length - most cannot (I have a Yamaha CDR-2100S that can only burn to about 95 minutes).

You also need to make sure that your player can read the outer most regions of the CD-R (this extra length is squeezed mostly from the LEAD-OUT area of the disk - which is on the outside of the disk).

I don't create VCDs or SVCDs anymore (gone to DVDs), so I can't report on their playability in the various players. On the audio side, these disks play in my car CD, on my computer and on my 15 year old Pioneer multidisk CD player. The only problem that I can report, is that if I stop the playback in the last 5 or so minutes (like I stop the car, or change to radio), most of my CD players have difficulty restarting where they left off (just go back one track, and everything is fine).

  6. I have burned my movies on 90 and 99min CD-Rs. Before buying that 100 pack make sure that you burner will burn those extra minutes if not it will only recognize them as regular 80min CD-Rs. Also make sure you burner will let you overburn. Use Nero because other burning programs may not support it and set it to overburn. After reading the comparisons of different drives on VCDHelp I found out only a few brands will let you burn to those types of CDs. The brands that were compatable were Cyberdrive, Lite-On and Mitsui I think but you can always double check. I have never used CompUSA brand so I don't know what they are like. I have only tried generic brands which were Ritek and another brand that I can't remeber. You also have to burn them a lot slower like 12x because when I burned them at the listed speed the video would be messed up. My DVD player was able to read them all the way through when I made VCDs and SVCDs and there were no problems. Since it is hard to find 99min CD-Rs you might want to shop around to find the best deal. The cheapest I've seen them for is $55 for a 100 pack.

I was under the impression Nero can overburn up to 120 minutes on CD-R and CD-RW, not that any drive exists to support that kind of overburning. I'd love to see an actual 120 minutes CD... 8)

  8. For what it's worth I use:
INFINITI Compax 99min/900MB (25 disc tub)
    with a:
    MITSUMI 480TE CDRW

I've never had 1 failure. Most VCD Movies I can now get on 1CD, most are between 950Mb - 995Mb. Tried in 6 different Home DVD Players and everyone has worked right to the end without problem.

The ONLY thing I've found that wont read them is my PC's DVD-ROM (PIONEER 106S), but that's no big deal, they're for my home player anyway.

  9. Have used CompUSA 99min. brand of CD-R For 6-8 months now, I use 2 different HP Burners and both can burn to 98min. 45 seconds, I make VCD's and Mostly SVCD's on them, they play in any APEX DVD player and on my new Daewoo 5700 and 5800, will play on a Pioneer 441 and 443, will not play on my new Panasonic U61K DVD player. Also can not copy from the CD-R's onto the computer or onto another disc, so make what ever copies you need before you blow away your MPEG's. Would not work in my terapin either.
