I have followed the guides to convert my avi's to dvd compliant mpeg2. Then i open dvdit and create a menu and do evrything as the guide says and when i am done and want to either burn directly to dvd disc or create dvd folder i click ok and it says "Each GOP header must be preceded by a sequence header" what does this mean and how to fix it? i use windows 98, 128 mb memory, 750mhz amd athlon. thanx

If you used TMPGEnc to encode to MPEG 2, you need to use the default settings for GOP. I believe it's 1,5,2,0. I'm not @home. But DVDit does not like non standard GOPs
-
You may be hosed. If some of your GOPs have lost headers, I know of no way (short of re-encoding) to get them back. Load your project into ReMPEG and let it "log" your file. Look at the GOP structure and you should see something like this:
IPBPBBPBBPBB
IPBPBBPBBPBB
IPBPBBPBBPBB
etc, with every "I" frame leading the packs (since a header is before this frame).
If you see something like this:
IPBPBBPBBPBB
IPBPBBPBBPBBIPBPBBPBBPBB
IPBPBBPBBPBB
then you have lost some GOP headers. (I used Viteq's MPEG-2 Clip software to "trim" my projects. This piece of shit stripped out about one-third of my headers.)
All the timing info is in the header. If you loose any, from that point on your video will be jerky and stop and go. Also, audio will loose sync.
I have yet to figure out a way to re-insert the headers. -
hmm so is there no way for me to fix this? I just wanna burn my mpeg2 files to dvdr to play on standard dvd players. If i can't use DVDit PE because of the "GOP header must precede sequence header" error what program should i use to author and burn my dvd's? Will i still have this problem no matter what program i use? If so can someone let me know how to fix it?

I believe most DVD authoring programs will give you this error (as they should). There has to be a header in front of every GOP in a DVD (to be complient). Even if you could find one that would author it (SpruceUp will, but it will give you a Temporal Reference out of Sequence error), the video would be unwatchable.

hmm see the thing is dvdit does it with every file. I just burned a perfect mpeg2 with ulead movie factory. But when i tried to do the same thing i did but with dvdit it gave me the same GOP error. So what could it be? When i encode with tmpeg you can change the GOP setting. It sets to standard itself. Also with 3 burning programs i found it hard to make chapters as the preview window, where the video u wanna take the chapters from, keeps freezing and it takes awhile to load the video. why is this? Do i need some codec on my computer for mpeg2? also i use windows 98. i read somewhere thats not a good program to use when burning dvd-r's. Is this tru? lemme know

Try this, it works for me:-
When encoding in Tmpgenc, encode video only (add the audio in seperatley to DVDit!)
Select the NTSC DVD template (I guess you are doing NTSC here)
If you source movie is 23.97fps, then:-
change the frame rate in TmpGenc to 23.97
On the advanced tab, ensure 3:2 pulldown is NOT checked
On the Gop structure tab, set the number of P picture in GOP to 4
On the Gop Structure Tab, ensure output interval of sequence header is set to 1
After encoding, use pulldown.exe to add the 3:2 pulldown flags
If your source avi is 29.97 fps then:
leave the frame rate alone
On the advanced tab, ensure 3:2 pulldown is NOT checked
On the Gop structure tab, set the number of P picture in GOP to 4
On the Gop Structure Tab, ensure output interval of sequence header is set to 1
Now hopefully DVDit will accept your Mpg -
Have you tried DVDPatcher? It patches the header of MPEG files, changing bitrate information (fooling the DVD player)...
I dont know if it can fix GOP... but if you try and fix your file, please let me known!

Hey, Fredİ
DVDPatcher is a great program to modify your headers. However, it won't place one where it is needed (been there, done that...). What we need, is a program that will scan through an M2P file and inserting a header in front of every "I" frame that it finds.
I ran across this problem with a capture from a laserdisk (I capped at 9.5Mbps, then transcoded down to 4.5Mbps VBR with CCE). I used a program that came with my capture card, Vitec's MPEG-2 Clip, which says that it's a frame accurate cutter (which it is), to trim out lead-in and lead-out stuff. I had to split the files into two 1GByte or so files, because this program can't handle > 2Gbyte. So now I have four parts, that I merge with TMPG. I author the DVD with SpruceUp and even simulate the damn thing and everything is fine (but a PowerDVD testing on the computer forcast the bad DVD - I just didn't believe it). However, a DVD burn is jerky, freezes and the audio is all screwed up. I load the file into BitRate Viewer (full version) and look at the GOP structures. They are now of the
IPBPBBPBBPBB
IPBPBBPBBPBBIPBPBBPBBPBB
IPBPBBPBBPBB
type. I trace everything back to the Vitec program. This required me to abandon the transfer, because I didn't want to cap, convert, author, burn again (many, many hours). I know what smokedala is going through... been there, suffered through that. -
And what about MPEG Corrector? It is a small prog I found on Net... just 409 KB...
it is a header corrector. The problem is that I found lots of stuff in internet, download but do not test them because I dont need...
If you dont know it I can send it to you...
Fredİ -
My understanding is that MPEG CORRECTOR is for Mpeg1 video streams. Let me know if it works on an Mpeg2 stream.
-
well, I think I found mpeg corrector in Kazaa... but if you want it, send an email to me that I will reply to you with the file attached... only 409KB...
