I have been having a hellofa time ripping DVDs i have tried prolly 10 times and only got one good rip. i have tried DVD2svcd DVD2AVI cce tmpg all the regular things. im not exactly new to encoding but pretty new to ripping my dvds. i have been trying to backup my eagles hell freezes over DVD and keep getting floating point error about 30% through the conversion process.. both TMPG and CCE do it. i used smart ripper to ripp the vob files to the hd and then tried dvd2avi and it seemed to work but all i got was static (white noise) for video. so i tried DVD2svcd and tried both encders tmpg and cce both crap out.. WTF.. is there and easy way to convert the VOB files to MPG? i looked at teh DVD how to guide and still had troubles. THE DVD plays fine and ripps to hd fine its always teh re-encoding.. i also tried flask that jsut crashes..i have 2 audio tracks one is DTS the other is PCM i know there are issues with trying to ripp DTS so i have been usign the PCM track. I have been able to extract the audio to wav no problem and vob files no problem..

ALSO what program can i use to JUST encode the VOB files.. DVD2SVCD only lets you chose RIP& encode or just RIP how do i just ENCODE if i already ripped.. i hate having to re rip everytime i have to start over from a fialed attempt i still havethe VOB on my HD

    thanks for any help

  2. i use cce and DVDx 1.8a to rip all my dvd's. the only thing is that you can only have a constant bit rate rip. i use about 1450 bit rate on the CCE for the rip. Try this out it is the fatest and best VCD i can get on my one + year experience of DVD ripping. I have done about 20+ ripps with this and say what i had only one bad rip that is because i made some mistake.
    try this out.

  3. btw....the best method is prolly still smartripper->dvd2avi->tmpgenc

if u followed sefy's newbie guide, u shouldn't have had any problems...

did you encode under winXP or win98...? win98 shouldn't give u any problems

are you serious...this tells me you've read zero guides, references, faqs, etc. It's a matter of unchecking dvdrip and clicking the file icon left of the cd icon.

I've done eagles hell freezes over and it went just fine.

  6. rip with internal routines and your issues should disappear. My strong guess is the problem lies with smartripper.
