  1. When you reply to a post (advanced mode) you're given the opportunity to specify your own title for the post, otherwise it defaults to "Re: Original thread title". When you reply and give your post a different title, unless I'm losing the plot, the new title doesn't display.

    Thanks.

  4. Good. It's not just me.

Being able to give a post with a new title can be a way to avoid the "off topic" complaints whenever a thread topic evolves from the original, which I've never quite understood myself, given that's what sometimes happens during discussions, but if so called "off topic" posts have a different title, it'd be easy for those who find that sort of thing upsetting to know which posts they shouldn't read. Assuming of course, when you reply to a post with a new title, the reply defaults to using the new title too, rather than the original. I can't remember if that normally happens.

Found out the way to do it.

Go to your settings and choose 'Threaded View' for the display of messages. I can now see my title in a tree.

You can choose Display - Threaded, Hybrid under each topic also.

  7. I've never looked up there for post titles. Maybe that's because they're not used much, or I'm unobservant, but it had only occurred to me to check the top of the post. Like this. Is there a best of both worlds possibility?

does it split the thread off the original one?

No, I don't think it does.

No it doesn't, although that's possibly not a bad idea, especially if a link could be automatically added to the existing thread so it's easy to navigate to the new one.
