  1. hi, So I have a video on a USB drive. It is mp4 and mkv video.
I want to play with Roku media, this video is originally in the Japanese language and when I play it on my PC. However, when I play it on the TV, it becomes English dubbed. How do I get rid of the dubbed and use the Japanese (original language) and have English subtitled or even change to another language on subtitles?
I called the roku tech support but they told me that it is the application(?) or the video itself has to do with it.
I do have other language subtitles files are (1080p.BluRay.x264-WiKi.smi). and

So my goal is English dubbed audio ---> Japanese audio + Korean or English subtitle on TCL Roku TV.

    Please help me.

  2. It's probably encoded with multiple audio tracks.

    Simply remove them.

    Same with subtitles.

Or use a video player that lets you select the audio track you wish.

Or simply drop into handbrake, include only the audio and subtitles you want, and do a quick reencode.

the easiest way to remove unwanted audio tracks from an mkv is to open it with mkvtoolnix, uncheck the the unwanted parts and re-mux it to a new mkv.

First, ask a mod to change the title of this thread to something appropriate like: Need help choosing audio and subtitles for playback on Roku TV as few will click on at a thread with Please help me... as the title.

Second, IMO, Roku, Roku TV and all built in media TV players are the absolute worse way to playback your videos as their video support in features (sch as being able to choose audio and subs) and video formats is very limited vs a standalone media player like an Android Box.

Third, the good news is that your issue is easily fixed quickly and without any quality loss with free programs.

For .mkv, use MakeMKV and choose the audio and subs you want, then save as .mkv

For .mp4, if you're on a PC (don't know the equivalent for Mac), use MP4Box (you'll need to download MP4Box Gui also). This is a two step process. First in the Demux tab, open your file and choose the audio and subs you want. This will Demux (extract) these into their component parts. Then go into the Mux tab and add the three (video, audio, subtitle) files and Mux (recombine) them into an .mp4 (with the name appended with remuxed).

Sorry to be so negative about Roku and Roku TV, but when, not if you come across an .mp4 or .mkv won't play, understand that both are just containers* and you'll probably have to convert the video and/or audio to the very narrow range of formats (how the video was encoded) to a compatible one, losing quality in the process.

*Think of it a bringing a cake home from the bakery, taking it out of the box and putting into your home container. Different container, same cake that cuts and tastes exactly the same.
