Searching for sample .DAV file

Not entirely sure if this is the best place to ask this question, but recently as a personal project of mine I've been trying to decode a .DAV file I found. According to a file information website, it seems that the .DAV filetype is a video format, which lead me to this forum. I doubt that the file I have is an actual video file, so if possible (on the off chance someone has a seemingly obscure filetype they're willing to share) would someone be able to provide a .DAV file for comparison purposes?

And since I'm also pretty new to looking at the details of different filetypes/filesystems (not necessarily video alone), if someone knows of a good help resource to look at could you send it to me? Any help would be appreciated.

try MediaInfoXP it should identify the video type if it is video.

A DAV file is a video created by a DVR365 digital video recorder (DVR) connected to a CCTV security camera. It stores video saved in an encrypted format compressed with modified MPEG compression. DAV files may be recorded by various DVR365 DVRs, such as the DSD304, DSD308, or DSD316.

I tried aedipuss' suggestion, and it doesnt seem that the file is video (especially compared to another run of the program I did on some old screencap to make sure I was using the program properly)

Unless anyone has any suggestions on what I should do to figure out what it is from here, time to start looking into the binary and trying (and probably failing) to find anything

johns0 probably has it right. it's an encrypted video file. the only way to decrypt them is on the machine they were recorded with and you need the password. then the security camera system has an option to export a clean video.
