Super 8mm to avi for DVD creation?

Hi babygdav; Thanks for the input! My problem is that I have about 10 rolls of Super 8mm with about 3600 frames per roll! I don't see any way of using a DSLR to shoot one frame at a time will be practical thus the need for either Telecine (cost is an issue) or flatbed scanner doing 27 frames at a time per min. not including editing (I have all mechanical issues worked out and all required software just looking for a faster way to process scans). Looks like I am going to have to "bite the bullet" and learn scripting for PS CS6!

Any ideas with out a ton of programming?

Yeah, download CineStripScanner software (free!) from this guy's site and save yourself a lot of headaches -- http://www.wkurz.com/download_e.php

Hi ozmamgo! TNX for the input. However the site suggested seems overly complex (but very accurate !) and it does take, at least for me, a very long time to setup. I am going to try this sites approach first ( " http://keneckert.com/kenfilms/telecine/index.html "), will keep you posted as to final setup and associated costs as well as a video clip of the final results.

I remember seeing this site years ago. Pretty interesting stuff. You might want to look at it again and, as you are re-reading it, ask youself how many of the various items you really need to download and use. My sense is that much of his work is for automating the operation of the machine he created. You only need the portion which will separate and align the scanned images.

If you winnow it down, you may find that you only need one or two items from this site, and that you may be closer to getting what you want than you think.

Hey, Jaybird, as long as you're having fun, that's what really matters!

I've got a bunch of reels of 8mm/S8mm film I've been wanting to transfer for years, but in truth I think I have a lot more fun experimenting with building telecine machines, than actually using them for productive purposes. That is, I build some contraption to transfer film to digital, it looks pretty good, it works okay ... but then I keep thinking of ways to improve it, and so far in the past half dozen years I've built about a half dozen telecine machines that (mostly) work but never quite perfect ... so ... build another one! Keeps me off the streets, anyway.

That reminds me, I think I need a different video camera to get the highest quality out of my latest setup, I wonder what somebody's selling on ebay at the moment...
