VHS to digital

Trying to convert a few VHS tapes to digital using the easyday DC60. VCR has composite in and SCART out but no composite out besides audio. DC60 requires composite in or S-Video in. Ideas? Maybe a SCART-to-S-video or SCART-to-composite?

Are you sure you plugged it into an output port and not an input on the VCR?

Scart to S-video propably won't work (or rather will give you a black and white image), unless you happen to have a SVHS VCR. If scart to TV works, a scart to composite adapter would probably work as well.

I figured that mighta been the issue. Double-checked and yeah it's in so that's why it doesn't work. But there is no composite video out, only audio L and R. Only video out option on this VCR is SCART. I may try a SCART-to-composite then.

You might as well try it. If you look at the pinouts SCART can carry both composite and s-video. The adapters you see just connect the correct pins on the SCART connector to the pins of the composite or s-video connector.

Scart to s-video will only give you a black and white signal unless you have a high-end SVHS machine that support s-video output on the scart port (in which case there will be a menu setting or switch to switch between composite and scart).

Yes, if the VHS deck has s-video output there will be a setting in its menus. This is because the composite and s-video luma (greyscale) pin are shared at the SCART connector. So the device needs to know which signal you want to output. That shared pin is also the reason you get a black and white picture when you try to capture s-video from a deck that doesn't support s-video output (there's no color on the chroma pin). Or when you attempt to capture composite from a device that's putting out s-video.

SCART to S-Video didn't seem to work at all, not even black and white. SCART to composite worked. Thanks for the help.
