Another IIRC Xvid question. As I recall, part of the reason unofficially given for limited DivX, Xvid support in hardware players was that it was viewed as the pirate's choice as this was the era of 1CD (700MB) and 2CD (1400MB) pirate releases (sizes that some people still adhere to and claim gives 'great' quality). Of course the real reason was almost certainly because manufacturers didn't want to pay for DivX and Ultra DivX certification. Another dim memory is that at one point the developers of DivX were going after anyone manufacturing non-DivX certified hardware or software players on grounds of copyright infringement.
