Has anyone had issues with MPC-BE freezing ?
It opens OK but when I click on "File" it freezes.
Windows 10.
I can go to the file and select "open with" MPC-BE and the file will start playing but if I right click on screen it freezes.

Thanks johns0
It seems to freeze everything.
Cannot quit using task manager.
Have to force shutdown (hold power button till Shut down)
Do you mean the sound card driver may need updating or some other driver issue ? -
Try updating your sound and video drivers,i update my mb bios and chipset drivers as well.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
2 more things to try - 1 Disable hardware acceleration in the video decoder (in case you enabled that)
2- Scan your harddrive for errors. Right-click on your harddrive in Explorer > Properties > Tools > Error-checking
Enable the option to scan for bad sectors. A bad sector (a small damaged spot on the harddrive) is a very common cause for complete system freezes. The scan can take a few hours if you have a very large harddrive. -
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.
I will let you know when one of them fixes the issue -
There was a little issue in MPC-BE nightlies that could freeze the system for some seconds if you had a explorer type playlist in Playlist CTRL+7, so please update to 1.5.4 stable and open playlist view and remove all older explorer playlists if there are any left.
The background of this was the HDDs were inactive and MPC-BE is was waiting for them to power on so there is a freeze uring this time. But fixed very soon in the nightlies, but also on doom9 some guys showed up that this kind of freeze happened although many new nightlies were available. -
If that doen't help, reset settings to default and configure new after your new 1.5.4 stable installation

OK thanks again for all the helpful advice.
I have now installed MPC-BE on two other windows 10 computers and there is no freezing issue.
So I figure there must be a problem with the initial PC I installed on so I will have to get that checked out.
BUT while testing the program with various short video clips I have found a small issue now with some subtitles not displaying.
I have to use subtitles all the time and that is why I find it so hard to find players that will display all different subtitles perfectly.
I was so happy to find MPC-BE as it seemed the perfect replacement for Potplayer (latest version has killed subtitles for me).
MPC-BE is so close to doing everything for me that older versions of Potplayer did.
I am sure the developers would like to improve MPC-BE to be as good and even better than Potplayer.
Here is a link for anyone interested where you can see that some of the dialogue does not get displayed on screen using MPC-BE.
In Potplayer all dialogue gets displayed (even a "sigh" at one point)
https://cp.sync.com/dl/627b4f870/jg2dh8mj-3rss4hz9-w7gy8b3h-j2y5n3iu -
I downloaded the file and for me it is working fine in EVR CP and madVR and in MPC Video Renderer, the newest creation of MPC-BE developers.
https://www.videohelp.com/software/MPC-Video-Renderer
Just download the packed archive, unpack it to your desired location, rightclick the install 64 file and run with admin rights and then open MPC-BE and select MPC Video Renderer in Video -> Video Renderer
Latest driver for your gfx card is installed? What card do you use? That makes a huge difference.
I tried with all internal filters and also tried with LAV Filters as external Filters, both are working fine. -
Thanks Flashanspan007
Did you look very closely at the subtitles as they were displaying on the screen.
Yes most lines of dialogue display perfectly but when I play it with MPC-BE there are some lines of dialogue that are spoken but not displayed on screen.
As I said every line of dialogue spoken (even a "sigh") is displayed perfectly in older version of Potplayer.
One example of dialogue not displaying is just after the spoken dialogue "I Checked" (is displayed) there is spoken dialogue "But he wont say what its on" for me that line of dialogue is not displayed on screen. -
I muxed the sample to mkv and then extracted the teletext as srt and opened in Notepad, but there is no line in the file.
Can you please give me another sample file, best the full, upload to google driver or similar

Great news: The developers of MPC-BE adjusted the Teletext subtitle parser built in MPC-BE in r4999
For details see here:
https://sourceforge.net/p/mpcbe/code/commit_browser
But you will have to wait for a nightly some hours -
That is awesome
They fixed it I knew they could.
Thank you so much for all your help flashandpan007.
But now with the risk of being pedantic and a bit picky I have found one other small thing that is a bit annoying.
I noticed in one movie that a line of dialogue was displayed moments after the dialogue was spoken when playing in MPC-BE.
But the same dialogue displays at the same time it is spoken when playing in Potplayer.
It is a very small thing and I have not tried many other video yet but if this is a frequent issue it can be very distracting when viewing a movie.
I will include links to the sections I recorder with capture as the video was playing in MPC-BE and Potplayer.
The recording is not good but it does show what I am talking about.
The line of dialogue at fault is "when I served under Leia"
Also longer portion of the movie link.

The devs told me the following:
Options -> Internal Filters -> Buffer length - set to 10 sec.
Default value 3 is not enough to parse end of this subtitles block and it's happened small later
So not an issue, just a setting that has to be adjusted
