The title says it all. I am trying out my new pioneer 104 dvd-rw writer and I get this error message in nero 5.5.8.0 "DVD-Video files reallocation failed"???. I am confused, has anyone else had this error and managed to get it working? It seems from the forum posts that getting some programs to work is pretty much hit or miss. But then again I am new to dvd burning so it could just be summed up as a newbie problem..whats most sucessful software to use? etc etc...
any help would be greatly appreciated.

what method are you using to rip or are you using your own video? where did you get the original files for the DVD?
Did you just drag and drop the VOBs and IFO into your VIDEO_TS folder?
This info can be helpful to determine your problem. -
Well, actually, your title says nothing. What are you trying to do, drag files from a DVD directly into NERO? The File Reallocation simply reorganizes your files so that they are burned to a DVD in the right order and this takes less that a second to accomplish.
What programs are "hit or miss"? What operating system are you using? processor? size of memory?
What you said is essentially, "My foot hurts!" Why does your foot hurt? Is it because you have been running barefoot over broken glass, or is it because you put a rock in your shoe before putting it on? -
Sorry... to me the title says it all as thats the error message I am getting. But I am my own worse enemy as I see that you are correct and more info is needed.
I am runing an amd 1800+
768 MB ram, abit kr7a mobo
windows xp professional,
plextor scsi cdr, plextor scsi cdrw, pioneer 104 dvd-r
maxtor hd's 20 and 40 GB with enough room free on them
I used smartripper to create the files, I went by the intstructions on this very site to get them and that worked fine. The movie was a christmas story. I wound up with (VTS_01_0.VOB thru VTS_01_5.VOB, and an .ifo file).
I then tried going by the book on burning in nero and it keeps giving me the Reallocation error. Which hase me perplexed as I can not find much out about it.
As an alternative to Nero until I get Nero working can I use Ez CD creator 5.01 and burn a data dvd with a VIDEO_TS folder containing the files and another folder called AUDIO_TS???
Thanks for any and all help. -
The File Reallocation Error means that NERO can't find the files it needs to make your DVD. The file VIDEO_TS.IFO has to be at sector 00000000 on the DVD or it won't play - period. The best way to get the files is to use the FILES method in SR and select ALL. This will give you everything.
Use the "DVD-Video" Wizard in NERO 5580 to get the files in the correct order (this is where your error occured, I assume). Fortunately for you, NERO told you that you were missing files (albeit, rather cryptically). -
Thanks I will try it by selecting all, I noticed that it didnt select quite a few files, but the guide showed it that way too.

worked, I could not play it in my apex ad600a though, but it was recorded on a memorex dvd-rw and not a dvd-r disc so maybe thats the probelem there. It did work in my pioneer dvd drive that I burnt it in.
maybe i just miseed the step but i dont recall it saying to check them all in there. thanks again. Before I try on a dvd-r I am going to hook up my apex1500 and see if it will read the dvd-rw..
thanks
