I have already used google and browsed forums ...
Please suggest easiest contemporary solution to create BD main feature shrink copy in mkv format.
Content is mostly live music videos, where I hate menu systems.
Preferred is freeware solutions for my temporary task.
Presently I have experiences with MakeMKV to rip Blu-ray to HDD mkv format but how to reduce mkv file size? (20-30%).
I tried Avidemux but it doesn't copy chapter stops and couldn't find Avidemux feature just to reduce bitrate, as I think that's bitrate is what must be reduced to shrink content.
Expected result is single mkv file reduced in size , when maintaining audio stream, subs and chapter stops.
Can I still use MakeMKV or is there some other software for this task?
While 2 step conversion is OK -
1. MakeMKV t o get mkv
2. ??? whatevere shrinks mkv
I have seen BD content file size reduced to half without noticeable picture quality loss, while maintaining 1080 resolution.
Any suggestions how to achieve this?
Thanks.
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays!

This looks what needed.
But selection of encoding options makes dizzy.
Any video file size shrink suggestions for beginners with minimal video quality loss maintaining 1920x1080?
Original is 1920x1080, H.264, 23.976 FPS
Mkv size 23GB and I'd like to shrink it to 8-15 GB.
Target is 32" LED TV screen. -
Thanks, but target size apparently isn't a purpose by itself.
I did some preliminary tests with 27GB mkv first 2 chapters, using 10000 and 15.000 kbps. (total shrank size was approximate 8Gb and 12 GB accordingly).
When it's difficult to find every possible picture quality degradation I'd just like to set all settings for best results.
When original is H.264 set automatically to H.265 - is it OK?
Frame rate original 23.976 set automatically to 30 FPS - is it OK?
Avg kbps - a setting I am going to test depending on content.
Encoder settings preset: default to slow - SHOULD I SET it to maximum slow "Placebo" for overnight encoding task?
Tune default - none, should I set it to PSNR, SSIM, grain, animation for music live shrink?
Level default - automatic (sets encoder compliance) - does it matter for me?
And perhaps MOST IMPORTANT - QSV decoding - should I keep selected?
Too many options to find best solution in reasonable time.
Any suggestions please?
There are many 20 years old live recordings issued on Bluray, which doesn't just have BD quality.
Copying such 30GB file my NAS for easy access is just waste of money and disk space. -
