Hi all,
I made several BluRay backups by MakeMKV and converted it to x265 using AVIDemux - works perfect, very smooth.
Once I realized one disk backup is almost unwatchable, while it jitters very much using same x265 presets (checked several times).
I realized that only difference is, the jittering souce video in MKV made by MakeMKV is coded by VC1 codec. None of those 10-15 that works is coded by VC1.
When I just play directly the "original" not-reencoded file (MKV or AVI with VC1) it plays ok. In time I pass it through AVIdemux with same X265 preferences, the output jitters.
For experiments I created just very small part of the movie as AVI (AVI itself is played ok, MediaINFO log attached). But no success with x265 conversion..
I also tried to force FPS (Resample FPS filter of AVI demux).
A have not changed any x265 settings while I must say am not aware of what it does. I am using just simple the non advanced setup:
Preset: medium
Tuning: psnr
Profile: main
IDC level: auto
Pool, Frame threads: auto
Encoding mode: CRF
Quality: 17
Any help is highly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

libav has probably some problem with it and like your player you probably need a decoder during conversion which uses a hardware decoder.
(as a side note: wrapping newer formats which use b-frames and I- frames that do not have to be key frames inside an avi container is a good way to run into problems; dts inside .avi is also a bad idea, same as putting .aac in it,..)

I won't deny that the file of the OP may be problematic, but please stop spreading nonsense about VC-1.
MKVmerge itself uses the VfW-compatibility mode to store VC-1 in Matroska. And DTS's DCA format uses strictly-constant bitrate, so it requires no special tricks to be stored in the AVI container.Last edited by El Heggunte; 14th Dec 2019 at 07:19. Reason: damn typos
