I have been fighting this same battle with some success. My DVD writing hardware is a Panasonic LF-D311 with NeoDVD as the supporting software.

My first suggestion in isolating this problem is to go thru all the motions of creating a DVD, but creating a virtual DVD on the hard drive without attempting the actual DVD burning. If your software will let you do this, you can use Power DVD or WinDVD to play back from the hard drive. WinDVD requires the VIDEO_TS folder with the .ifo and .vob files in it to be at the root level. Then just point the player at the hard drive (C: or D:) and see if it works.

Getting the burner to work is the next step. I started with the cheap blank media at $2.00 a shot from www.meritline.com I found that the Meritline media worked almost all of the time, the DVD Pro media never worked.

Once I got past this, the Media would play both on the PC and my APEX 1500 standalone player.

My main problems were with the capture -> AVI -> MPEG2 part of the process - that's a whole other long story.

    I hope that helped some.

  3. once you have your mpeg2 file must be authored into the necessary vob files and bup nad ifo files. Running the mpeg2 thru DVD Workshop, MY DVD or any other DVD authoring software will mux the mpeg file into the vob files ( plus any menu you make ). You cannot simply dump the mpeg2 file direclty onto a DVD-R ( or -RW s I suggest for practive burns until you get it all down pat ) and expect it to play, even if you make the VIDEO_TS directory and dump it in there, as all that is supposed to be in the VIDEO_TS directory are bup, ifo and vob files.

  4. all right. well i did get sumthing to burn. I used mydvd to make the video_ts folder and burned it to dvd with prassi primodvd. The dvd came out but the audio was out of sync with the video. So i am stuck again. Whenever i use DVDit PE and make the menu and everything and click to make folder or burn to disc it says " each gop header must be preceded with a sequnce header" i dont know what that means? Also i read in a couple places not to burn dvd's when u are running windows 9x. is that tru because i am running windows 98,128mb mem,750mhz amd athlon processor. I have on my comp and have tried to use the following progs:
    Neo dvd 2.5
    Mydvd
    DVDit PE
    Ulead dvdmovie factory
    primodvd

If sum1 can tell me what to do using ne of these progroms so i can burn my dvd compliant mpeg2 files to a dvd-r with a simple menu and have it play on standalone dvd players and then i can go to sleep peacefully.
BTW i use princo discs to burn and have pioneer dvr-104
    Thanx

  5. Download a single program, the Ulead Moviefactory, for a free 30 day trial. It contains the mpeg encoder, editor, menu creator, and DVD burner software, all in ONE application. If the DVD burned with this software will not play in your DVD player, then your DVD player is not DVD-R compatible. Quite simple!
