    All I want to do is copy a dvd and make it so I can see it on my computer in divx or mpg or even avi.

    try out dvd2svcd.. it's real simple to use.. there's a guide in the dvd rip section.. just be sure to disable cd image, so it'll leave the rip in mpg format for ya. if you wanna do divx you can take the mpg and use something like vidomi. if you wanna rip from dvd to divx there's some other apps out there that'll do it for ya also.
