I have a 23 minute .vob (dvd-rip) file (I own the DVD it is just for backup and my own personal experimentation with compression so I hope this isn't against the TOS). Since it is a dvd rip the .vob file is of the highest quality. I am trying to get the file (cut down to 20 minutes) to be no more than 100 MB. I have almost succeeded in doing this but I am having one issue. I am compressing/encoding/converting the file with Xmpeg (a great program FYI). I have gotten the file to a decent
size with fairly good quality using 2-pass divx encoding and deinterlacing turned on but I have one issue. The file needs to be deinterlaced because it looks horrible if I do not deinterlace but it causes this weird effect. The effect creates strobed lines accross the screen as the video plays. To explain what I mean here is a six-second clip of my compressed video. Download it at http://rpgplayer007.tripod.com/Lain_Full_ep_01.zip What is the problem? What type of interlacing should I use? There are a few options. Also should I use bilinear or bicubic filtering when resizing the file to half-size?
