Verdict on downloading .ISM/SmoothStreaming/Microsoft Silverlight files?

Hello,

As of 2019, is there a way to record streamed videos that end in .ism?

FWIW, playing a video works fine in Chrome but fails when trying Firefox.

I tried ISM Downloader, but it complains with "ERROR: Encrypted content (DRM)!".

A bit more googling shows that people aren't happy with VLC and SmthPlayer.

At worst, I could run a screencast app like FlashBack Express and leave the computer running for the duration, but I wanted to check with the experts.

Regardless of DRM in the absolute— I only need to download a file to rip a couple of quotes —, is it because of DRM that a file is split into parts and youtube-dl, ffmpeg, etc. can't manage to download it?
