DVDFab will not read a disc

I truly hope that someone will be able to assist me with this one.

Here is my dilemma:

I use DVDFab to copy discs, but have never had this type of struggle before. I have copied 5 discs out of a 6 set collection, but one of them will not read with DVDFab! Meaning, when I insert the disc into my computer to copy it, NOTHING occurs. Usually DVDFab will begin to read the disc before the copy process. The disc is not scratched or smeared, either. If I have an occasional issue, I will use water to clean the disc.

What do you think is going on here?

The first Q. is can you play the disk in that drive with a software player such as vlc ?

The second Q. Have you applied ANY water to this disk ?

does the disc show up when you click on your computers dvd drive ??

I do not see the disc in the E drive.

Cannot play it through VLC. Yes, I cleaned it with water.

Well wherever you read, or thought, it was a clever idea to clean a disk with water.....

You have killed your disk.

I have not "killed" the disc. I have cleaned many discs with water and were able to copy with DVDFab. I cleaned the other 5 discs in the collection, and they copied just fine.

The problem is the disc itself. It will not play in the DVD player. It say says that it Cannot Operate Disc.

LOL soap and warm water has always been an acceptable method of cleaning plastic cd/dvd's. they are sealed. and unless dropped on edge usually remain that way. if it was open you'd notice the dye deteriorating inside.

look closely at the dye side. if there is any variation in color the disc may have died. they all do sooner or later, and cheap discs are not lasting nearly as long as projected for the dvd standard.

AFAIK, water will not harm either a DVD or CD (they are manufactured quite differently). You might do damage to the label, but that's all.

Dual sided laserdiscs were bonded together with glue (which was a contributing factor to "laser rot"), but I'm not sure that even that would be damaged by casual water exposure.

I've cleaned lots of discs using various cleaning agents, usually Cinch. No problems.

I have since read that a solution of alcohol and water can be used. That same article does also mention warm water.

But what went through my pea-brain was a situation where the cleaning was not fully dry and could have damaged the surface by the laser.

Maybe I have been lucky or just careful. But I have NEVER had to clean a single disk.

All 5 discs work with DVDFab.

Some drives won't read some discs. Simple as that. Try it in a different computer and odds are it'll load right up.
