Cmon guys, riping vhs via 90's vcr's in today days... Really? Current hardware components is far away from 90's vcr's components. Also about tape head (that reads magnetic data from vhs tape). I bet there is a way to build diy high quality vhs digitizer via this day components. Any ideas how to do it? Or maybe someone already built it? Big companies won't do it because this is a dead format, so only hope for some startups and geek enthusiasts

To be blunt, this is a really dumb post.
1. You don't "rip" VHS. Ripping is a technical term reserved for extracting non-containered (or blocked) digital content. VHS is analog. VHS is captured.
2. The way to build a "high quality digitizer" is to get a quality workflow: VCR, TBC, capture card. Not just any random devices, but quality ones known to address issues from consumer analog formats.

3. It has nothing to do with "big companies" or anything else. It's a legacy format. It's as silly as asking why dial-modems don't give modern broadband speeds, then suggesting that "big companies" could solve this problem.
4. There is research into FM acquisition, but it fails to address issues like timing, and currently even color, and may never come to fruition. It works on Laserdisc, but Laserdisc isn't VHS or any consumer tape. I wish it would happen, could happen, including software TBC, but I doubt it will.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
