I understand the basics of the technical differences associated with the playing of a VCD on a DVD/VCD player and on a PC. On a DVD player my VCDs look adequate (as much as a VHS version) but on a PC the image is blurred and blocky. I have reduced the screen resolution to 640x480 which is the smallest I can get and it still doesn't look good. If I leave the VCD play on the PC at this or higher resolution than the picture is to small to read the text on the menu screen or in the video.
Any recommendations on how to get a good resolution on both standalone and on PC.
Note, I have considered SVCD however my VCD is 73min 57sec and fits perfectly on the VCD. SVCD would require 2CDs. Correct me if I'm wrong...

Well, like you already mentioned, set the screen res. as low as possible. Then move away from your computer screen - if you view it from the same distance as you normally use your computer, you'll never get it to look good (at least, I'm assuming we're talking in fullscreen mode here).
The distance from which you normally view your TV is a good starting point.
