  1. Ok, I guess the new version of GomPlayer already has AV1 codec built-in feature.
Question is how to play AV1 codec videos in and old version of GomPlayer?
I'm reluctant to update versions of some softwares and I'd like to keep current one (2.3.21.5278).
It's common to happen that newer versions are worse than what the previous one.

Youtube is using this new codec in some videos when I download them with InternetDownloadManager.

    Any ideas?

I can play such videos using VLC v. 3.0.7.1, but can't do the same with GomPlayer.
Is there a way to install that codec to the whole system?
    I'm still using Windows 7 SP1.

    Thanks.
    Thank you.

  3. If GomPlayer can use DirectShow codecs and you can find a DirectShow AV1 decoder -- that should work. Can you give a link to a Youtube video that uses AV1? I haven't seen one yet.

I would have thought so, the version I downloaded was obtained using youtube-dl with no operands except the URL

    Code:
    Video
    ID : 1
    Format : AV1
    Format/Info : AOMedia Video 1
    Format profile : Main@L4.0
    Codec ID : V_AV1

  7. Thank you, guys.

    Problem solved!
Yes, GomPlayer can use directshow codecs and I got davexnet's suggestion about LAV filters.

Nice to see you both, still here, after many years.

    Cheers.

I still have this same problem. I am a newbie and am confused by the supposed solution to this problem. I followed the links and think I have correctly located and installed the suggested codecs. But I guess I don't know how to get my old GOM Player (v.2.1.5) to utilize them and play the video (audio is fine) of the av1/AOM files I download. I can play them with other players I have but my preferred player is still the old GOM Player. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  9. Ted Smith, sorry for a long delay to answer your question.
But I was away from my registered e-mail here and, just today I could read your post.

First, you have to install LAV filters.

After that, open GOM Player and go to settings (F5).

My language is Portuguese, but I guess you'll find the right places to change.
At section "Filters" and at fist tab, uncheck your video extension.

In example above, I unchecked MKV files.

Close GOM and open it again. I think, you'll get your video openning.
    Thank you.
