  1. Hi all, I have been making (s)vcd's using dvd2avi to create a .dv2 and wav file and tmpeg to then encode with the standard (s)vcd template, i had to reinstall windows xp on my machine the other day and since re-installing all my video related apps, my mpg videos encoded through tmpeg seem jerky, the audio is fine but the video seems to halt for less than a second every 2 seconds through out the video (sync is fine) it's still watchable but anoying as it they used to be perfectly smooth. The actual image quality is still just as good. Has anyone else had this problem?

thanks in advance for any help :-)

There are probably lots of reasons for this. Make sure you have DMA enabled on your drives for instance.

One problem that I have experienced was sound card related. I had an on-board Soundblaster PCI 128 on my Gigabyte 7ZX motherboard. I was getting jerky playback with VCDs/SVCDs. I found that if I muted the sound, they played back OK. I ended up replacing the soundcard (with VideoLogic Sonic Fury = Turtle Beach Santa Cruz) and all is now well.

Suggest you try playing with sound muted - at least it would eliminate or incriminate the sound card. It is possible that your recent re-install has changed the set up of the drivers somehow.

  3. Thanks VisiBill, ill give that a try, I have an onboard sound card. Do you think its hardware related then, not something to do with video card settings or codec probs?, reason i say that is i have a new graphics card, (geforce 2 mx400) and have loaded the geforce tweak prog and played around with that to increase my game frame rates.

    Thanks again

  5. The other problem may be your frame per second. I know DVD are mainly set at 23 fps. If you used a 29fps template then of course the video would be jerky as it's misssing 6 fps.

Check your mpg file with vdub and see what your fps rate is under file information.

  6. think you may of hit the nail on the head there. in dvd2avi when i preview the ripped vob files the stats show 20fps! in tmpeg the default on the vcd template is 25fps. can i change this to down to 20fps and still be vcd compliant?

    thanks again :-)
