  1. Had to do a clean install of OS (W10) and while I lost none of my data, it did lose all of my installed Codecs

    There are several Codec packs listed here - anyone pack a good set to go with ? ........ will then only add others if called for.
    I seem to recall that on of them installs a lot of garbage (K-Lite ?)

    Never, EVER, install a code pack. All will install things you will never need and potentially slow your system.

    All the codecs, players etc. you ever need can be installed individually. Takes a little more time but you save that in the long term.

    Couldn't agree more. You don't need one. You're on Windows 10. My Windows 10 plays everything by default, that will do me.

    What about LAV filters? Does that count as a codec pack?

    It's on the page but I would not classify it in the same category as Klite and some of the others that carry the 'health' warnings. Same with ffdshow.
