I recently acquired an ES-10 and experiencing problems with it.
The main problem is it does not display or passthrough any video connected via any of the AV1-4 inputs. I've tried connecting both SVHS and DVD players to every input including s-video and composite but I'm continuously getting no signal on the display. Note, the DVD player seems to play fine.
So my questions are, is this machine broken? or am I missing a crucial setting somewhere?
My troubleshooting involves;
Changing VHS players as input
Changing output settings via the ES10
Changing output device ie TV
Can I get this fixed somewhere? Otherwise I'm just going to donate to my local bin.

What happens when you set the input source on the ES-10 to the AVI port where the VHS is connected ?
I have a similar issue with my PAL ES10. No video, just audio.
Thread: Panasonic DMR-ES10 (PAL) no video output?
Yours seems worse than mine. Caps may be the culprit.
Yes I did read that thread. I'm sure someone with the knowledge and skill could fix it quite easily and for cheap. But finding that knowledge is the difficulty and in terms of playing with circuits and boards, my knowledge is a big fat 0.
For those reading in the future, the ES-10 is indeed broke. I bought another ES-10 and it is not having these problems. However, even on the new machine Im getting problems from AV inputs 3 and 4. 1 and 2 seem to be fine.. I guess these old machines are a bit hit and miss.
I've sent mine to somebody to be re-capped.
Updates on how that goes will be here eventually: http://www.digitalFAQ.com/forum/vcr-repair/9820-panasonic-dmr-es10.html
We shall see what happens!
Is the Panasonic DMR-ES10 a good player for transferring VHS tapes to computer to capture video?
