    Hello,

    Unless there's an option I missed, ffmpeg doesn't display an ETA.

    From this outline, is there a way to guess how long the process will take (and possibly, how big the output file will be)?

    From these you should be able to calculate.

    I.e. at 0.972x speed with 02:01:17.76-00:00:02.27 remaining that would be ~118 minutes to wait.
    76kB size for 00:00:02.27, then expected size for 02:01:17.76 should be 243661 kB.

    Of course this early in the encoding process the estimates will be very inaccurate.

    Thanks much for the infos.

    Ultimately, on a cheap Acer desktop powered by an AMD Athlon 64 X2 CPU, it took 3 hours to recompress that 8,354MB MPEG2 file, and the output file size is 287MB using the following options:

    ffmpeg -i "full.mpg" -vf scale=720:404 -pix_fmt yuv420p -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ac 2 -ar 44100 -threads 2 -f mp4 full.mp4
