Ok, I got some movie files (.avi - all encoded with DivX) and I want to make some VCDS (Or maybe SVCD's cuz they are better quality, right?)
Anyways, I can play the .avi files perfectly.
Then, I open the video file, and load the Super Video NTSC template thing. I encode, done. voila! *STOP* Noooooo
Ok, as i'm converting though the picture is just black the whole time, I don't actually see what it's converting.
So when i'm done, i go to play the file to make sure it works, etc.
Audio works, black screen. WTF?
I have no clue what i'm doing wrong, i did this before and i could see the picture, but for some reason i can't see it...
i have WinDVD, and i open the file (black screen) do i have to have a mpg2 codec? i downloaded one on the codecs page, it didnt seem to help (it said to get some virtual basic 6 files or something? i got those, installed, didnt help... uninstalled the codec, then reinstalled, didnt help)....... what's going on?

WinDVD plays SVCD format, so there has to be a problem with your encoding perhaps.
Are you using TMPGEnc to encode? Are you following the encoding guidelines in the 'how to' section of this site?
Note also that SVCD on a CD allows only about 35 minutes per CD. If you are looking to burn full length movies, you may be better using a VCD template, for more than 70 minutes per CD (using VCD standards).
Your best bet is to encode a short AVI first to test the concept. In TMPGEnc you can preview the encode before wasting time waiting hours for a poor result.
Please give some more details about your encoding steps and tools. -
Ok... well I installed the Nimo Codec Pack.... and when installing it had an error about opening some Divx file, but divx seems to work (ill install the new version soon)
When i try to open a mpg2 file now, it says error downloading codec, cant download, but it still plays.... sooo...
Um, what I did was, new project, i opened the video+audio source with TMPGEnc. Then i loaded the Super Video CD (NTSC) template and hit start... but I got a black picture (before nimo codec pack)
i converted recently, looked good.. then i went to nero to burn a Super video cd, but then it said i encoded wrong (im pretty sure it was something about the audio) but i loaded the template so why would it mess up? these r .avi (divx) files by the way.
i turned off the standard compliance with nero and burned... it looked like it worked when i tested it on my dvd player... so i dunno
now a new problem...
File
----
700 mb (in .avi form)
Width = 464
Heighth = 256
Audio Duration = 1:41:44
Bit Rate = 147 kbps
Audio Format = MPEG Layer-3
Video Frame Rate = 23 frames / per second
Data rate = 117 kbps
Video sample bit = 24 bit
Video compression = divx codec
now i do my method (new project, open the file, load the super video cd template) then when i hit start to convert, it says error decoding audio (yet my other .avi [divx] worked [sorta..]) help!
