Hi guys, I've just joined. So my problem is, I was recording a few clips of a car event last Saturday and they were recording just fine, no errors or anything, then when I go to play them, they will not play on any device, they were recorded on my Google pixel. It says "a playback error has occurred" so I tried most all the free video repair apps (including VLC) and nothing works. So if anyone can help me with this I'd appreciate it, also please try to explain it as simply as you can because I'm not very computer/tech savvy lol. If you want me to send you the files via email so you can have a look at it, I can do that aswell, just pm me ur email address.

Can you provide a small, known good, file recorded on the same device? It's useful
as a reference -
The program untrunc was able to recover this video.
See this post for other options to try:

It's only Linux as far as I know, but you don't need Linux installed.
I've used it successfully from a Live Linux DVD, I tried this one and it worked fine.
Download the 64 bit version and create the bootable DVD or USB
https://mxlinux.org/wiki/system/iso-download-mirrors/
Also untrunc is portable, all you need to do is copy the folder containing the program to the
desktop and run it from there

ok so im on the github site were i downloaded the untrunc master zip, and theres a bunch of different instructions, do i follow the "Installing on Ubuntu" or the "Installing on other operating systems (Manual Libav installation)" instructions? im not quite understanding this lol, not the best at computer stuff as stated

ok im having trouble with this, how exactly do i run this? can you do a step by step process as simple as you can for me as to how you fixed other mp4 so i can do it on my other mp4's? excuse my ignorance.....
-
It's command line, see the "using" paragraph
https://github.com/ponchio/untrunc
To make it easier, I renamed the files to a simple good.mp4 and bad.mp4 and copied them
into the untrunc folder itself. Depends on how well you know Linux HDD drive partition designations -
ok so the code provided is ./untrunc /path/to/working-video.m4v /path/to/broken-video.m4v , so it says change "/path/to" to good and bad (the name of my mp4's), correct? and there is another /path/to thats near the end thats right next to "broken-video.mp4" , do i change that to good bad (names of my mp4's) aswell? or do i just change the one at the beginning or end?

I open up a terminal and it's positioned at the "home"of my userid. I have previously copied the "ut" folder to my desktop.
To navigate to the untrunc-master, I type in
CD Desktop/ut/untrunc-master
Then I can enter the command
./untrunc good.mp4 bad.mp4 (having previously renamed the files and copied them there - the same directory as the executable)
and the fixed file will be generated in the same location, assuming it is able to fix it. -
-
See this screen shot for some help in navigating around the folders, perhaps it will help.
I used the "dir" command to display the folder contents. You can see the executable
as well as some media files
If not, produce your own screen shot showing the command window as I have done.
I used the program "shutter" to create and save the screen shot, not sure what your distribution has...
you can always resort to a photo from your phone if you need to
Did I mention I'm also a Linux novice? -

NO need to install Linux. Download the image, burn the DVD and boot from it. You get the Live DVD environment, the whole OS
to play with without an install.

You could also try the other programs I linked to earlier, they're Windows
Are your other bad files from the same device? If they're not too big upload them and I'll take a look -
