Super 8 Film to DVD

Hi all,

I have a Super 8 film that a friend transferred to digital for me at 18fps. I would like to put the footage on a DVD to view, do I have to slow down the footage to 29.9 fps to be not as fast when playing on a TV?

18->29.97fps would be speeding it up, not slowing it down. And the answer is 'no', you can make a DVD with your 18fps footage without speeding it up.

Correct. You can use DVD flags to repeat the proper # of frames so it's resulting framerate would fit with 29.97, even though the motion would remain 18fps (although there will be added jitter aka judder, because it's not a straight integer change).

Cadence would be something along the lines of:
1,2,2,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,8,8,9,9,10,10,11,12,12,13,13 ,14,14,15,16,16,17,17,18 (if mapped to 30p). 29.97 would of course be 1000/1001 slower. If mapped to interlaced, it might flow a little smoother, but you may have additional (different) motion artifacts.

Consider speeding it up to 19.98 fps then using 3:3 pulldown. Of course, everyone here is assuming each frame of the 18 fps video corresponds to one film frame.

That's likely more smooth. Only 1.1% difference.
