  1. I am trying to convert an mpg I already have and when I load it in tmpg it says that it cannot open or is invalid. I don't want to convert to avi and then back to mpg (which does work) because this is a dvd rip (not my rip) and I want to retain high quality. Any clues on how to get this to work?

Assuming that your mpg file is MPEG-2 format, you might find your problem will be solved by installing the 'TMPGEnc MPEG2 Plugin', which you can find from the Tools section of this site, under 'Video Encoders'. Follow the instructions to install it.

Sorry, I thought there were some instructions with it .. I definitely read some instructions somewhere. Try searching the forum.

As far as I remember, you copy the m2v.vfp file into the same directory as the TMPGenc.exe file. You then run TMPGEnc and go into the Option menu/Environmental setting...

Click on the VFAPI Plug-in tab and you should see the MPEG2 Video Plugin listed. Right click on it and increase its priority until it is higher than the others listed (1 on my system).

This worked for me - with TMPGEnc 2.51.

    Best of luck.
