digital video file to mini dv tape

anyone with any suggestions as i how i could transfer a digital .mov file to a mini dv tape

i have a sony hdrfx1e camcorder

See Page 77 in the manual. If you are on Windows you can use WinDV.

And if the mov file doesn't contain DV and uncompressed PCM you'll need to convert it first.

You may need to use big buck software to make compliant DV or HDV files such as Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere ..etc, I've been through this before and I couldn't find a free software that print back to tape so I had to use Sony Vegas, Check this thread.
By the way I've owned the Sony HDR-FX1 camcorder back in 2006, It was a great camcorder, I still have all the files I made with it after transferring them to computer, I sold it two years later.

I've got to ask: WHY?

There are better & easier & quicker methods of archiving (particularly if DV isn't its native codec), and while tape is fairly long-lived, it sure won't be as easy to read back from here on out.

Some people just like to fiddle with old technology, No offence but no one has to provide a good reason for what they are doing or trying to do, Obviously the OP knows that the best and cheapest way is to leave the file on the hard drive alone, But people like to try different things for different personal reasons.

No offense taken. But we all know of common occurrence here where user will ask about some intermediate step, when they haven't thought the problem through in a scientific way so aren't seeing the bigger picture, etc. The question is a reminder of the "Gordian-Knot" problem.
You might be surprised how many people think they are working on the only/best solution to a problem, but when the problem is shared and described, others can provide a fresh perspective yet one that still fulfills the ORIGINAL need (though possibly NOT an intermediate need).
And NO, many users do not even realize the principal of straight-wire/do least harm.
