I am wanting to overlay subtitle file with a video when I play with Windows Media player.

I have the video and the subtitle file in the same dir with the same name.
If I launch VLC player and manually load up the subtitle track it works fine.

I installed DirectVobSub latest ver and it seemed to install OK, but there's no way of knowing if its "active " or not. I hear there's supposed to be a green arrow in the sys tray. Its not there. I can't find it in the task manager.

I have Win10. Any idea how to get this going?

DirectVobSub is a DirectShow filter and a.f.a.i.k. the Windows Media Player that ships with Windows 10 does not use DirectShow

OTOH PotPlayer supports DirectShow and in my not-so-humble opinion it sucks much less than WMP.

    P.S.:

According to this page, you should give a try to Win7DSFilterTweaker:

    https://codecguide.com/windows7_preferred_filter_tweaker.htm

This tool can disable the use of Media Foundation for the following file extensions:
    .3g2, .3gp, .3gp2, .3gpp, .avi, .m4a, .m4v, .mov, .mp4, .mp4v, .wav

    And additionally on Windows 8/8.1/10:
.m2t, .m2ts, .mod, .mp2v, .mpeg, .mpg, .mts, .ts, .vob

Thanks... good to know its a Directshow filter.

Actually I am looking to get this working in Reaper audio editor.
Reaper has a video facility and I am dubbing audio for the video. I need to have subtitles.
I t hink Reaper just calls the Windows stuff to display its video.

It was not working on my desktop, but I am not an admin there.
However, I got a laptop out where I am admin, and the DirectVobSub puts itself in the systray there.
So, I am guessing some kind of rights-privilege issue.
