You can't play any mkv files on a dvd player, you will have to buy a blu-ray player to play mkv files.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
thanks for your input.
now what are the solutions available for me? as you said i should buy bluRay player and that is not possible now.
Can i convert from mkv to any other format like mp4 or avi and will it play?
if yes, wont i loose video or audio quality? and what parameters i should choose for optimal result.
can i use android box for playing mkv files (offcourse with sound coming from home theater speakers)?
or any cheap (in therms of cost) solution..? -

If its a DVD player try avi with xvid video and mp3 audio. Without a model number can't help much more. My Curtis doesn't have mpeg4 documented but it does indeed play them.
if all else fails read the manual -
