Will analog videotapes made on one brand of camcorder play on another brand of camcorder?
Reason: I have old tapes made on an RCA camcorder and there are many more Sonys and others available on eBay. I want to transfer tapes to PC.

Yes as far as I know, Hi8 recording should play on any Hi8 machine
-
General rule for all analog helical scan tapes, the machine that recorded the tape will play it best. That being said, Hi8 was designed to be played on any Hi8 and Digital8 machine (no matter the brand).

The tolerances for 8 mm format are extremely small. Interchange suffers when the recording and playback alignment disagree. If both machines are aligned to spec, no problem. Twenty-year-old cameras that have been knocked around are often out of spec.
