  1. Just started using SE and began by editing the srt file for the 2000 movie Frequency.

I've kinda got the hang of it but I'm puzzled by the red\orange highlighting on the overlap sections.

Not the color per se, but what causes the section to be highlit in the first place.

I've tried adding together the time that the line appears, to its duration, but the total doesn't exceed the appearance time of the next line.

So, what makes it an 'overlap'?

    I've attached a typical image (Well, I think I did )

  5. Thanks. I checked the log and it says:

+ Fix short display times: Unable to fix text number 40: 00:02:50,567 --> 00:02:52,567 Frank, you're not going to make it,
    there's not enough time!

That's all it says. Which doesn't explain why it's an error. Oddly, it doesn't appear to affect the sub display or playback.

Anyway, I've emailed the program's creator and asked him.

    Cheers

I think you'll find it's a warning not an error

  7. In settings under the general tab in the rules section, there are a couple of settings, which, when triggered will generate the colored lines.
In your case it could be the 'max char/sec'-rule.

  9. davexnet: Yeah, I think you're right.
LittleBull: Cheers, I'll check it out.
teodz1984: Using that tool is always the first thing I do with a new project. Doesn't always have a noticeable effect, though.

But if you do it will overlap with the next sub. That's what the program is warning you about.
