Years ago I recorded a school reunion on a VHS camera and later transferred the recorded video on to a DVD+R which works fine when played on my dvd players connected to a TV. A friend asked for a copy of the video and when I copied it using the burn software in Windows 7 to another blank DVD+R it plays on my PC but when attempting to play it on either of my two DVD players it fails to play and rejects the disk. I have two DVD players a Samsung and a Sony and both are fully operational.
Can some kind soul suggest why this disk will not play, what I may be doing wrong and what I can do to create a playable DVD from the original?

Thanks for any assistance and guidance.

I always use ImgBurn for copying discs. Windows disc software may be the problem.

But other members may have better advice.

    And welcome to our forums.

  3. Some of the "built-in" software, including Windows, attempts to let you copy data (or video) to discs as if they were a hard drive or thumb drive. To do this, they use a different file system that requires that the disc be "finalized" before it can be read by hard-wired "dumb" devices like a set-top DVD player. The solution is to look at the documentation and see if there is a "finalize" function. If so, you can take the disc you have already burned, insert it back into the computer, run the finalize function (should take less than a minute), and hopefully that will fix the problem.

As was suggested, install ImgBurn and use that to copy your original, playable DVD to your PC as a disk image (ISO file), then use ImgBurn burn the ISO to a blank DVD.

Thanks for the input by responders - regarding the finalize suggestion there appears to be no way to get to a finalize option on the copied disk. I will try the ImgBurn option and see if either of my set top DVD player will send video to the TV.

Question for usually-quiet or anyone that may have solution - I tried to open the forum.imgburn web pages you listed and I cannot open them - my Firefox browser calls the pages dangerous and prevents opening? Wondering why - hacking or other suspicious issues?

I also have issues with the forum.imgburn links. That is not to say that there is an issue and your (and mine) anti-virus is being too sensitive.

But download the actual software direct by clicking the link that you now see for imgburn . Pay careful attention to any 'offers' you get since although it is free software it could have selected some adware to pay for its development.

I did not know that imgburn could do disk-for-disk copying. The usual procedure is to copy the folders and files from your disk to your HDD and then burn those folders (with the files), not just the files since then the disk will not work in a player, with imgburn.

In this instance, where because it is DVD+R (commonly left unfinalized from DVD+ recorders), it will continue to be an issue if you solely do Disc-to-disc/ISO, etc. What you want to do is copy the files & folders to a folder on your HDD/SSD, take that encompassing folder (or rather its contents) and put it in Imgburn in "build" mode. Then, either create an ISO (for later copies) or a disc for direct playback. It will be finalized. And SHOULD play (assuming all other elements are DVD compliant).

When I opened the links I posted in Firefox (version 66.0.2), I didn't receive any warnings. I use an antivirus, AVG free, on this computer and I installed NoScript and Adblock Plus browser plugins for Firefox.

The ImgBurn forum site doesn't provide users with a secure, private connection. Without one, a third party might be able to see or change the information sent or received via that site. However, I have not seen any reports that the ImgBurn forum site is compromised. For what it's worth, I have BitDefender installed on another computer that I use, and it often blocks videohelp.com, which is secure.

fdm337 said he has two DVD players a Samsung and a Sony which can play his original DVD. Regular DVD players don't play unfinalized DVDs.

However, as long as it's possible to copy the VIDEO_TS folder with its files from the DVD that played to a PC, ImgBurn in Build Mode will definitely create a playable copy.
